Daniel King, PhD, and Lynda King, PhD, are both quantitative psychologists who have emphasized the introduction of innovative methodologies to the study of trauma. Their 1987 quantitative review of 67 veteran studies was the first meta-analysis to appear in the trauma field. Similarly, they were the first research team to employ item response theory-based psychometric analyses of a measure of PTSD. Furthermore, Drs. King have led in the use of confirmatory factor analytic methods to evaluate the structure of recognized PTSD measures. They have been proponents of a number of best practices in structural equation modeling in trauma research. They also have contributed a number of publications dedicated to informing and instructing trauma researchers about particular methods: Topics include item response theory, confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation modeling, interactions as represented by moderated multiple regression and multiple group structural equation modeling, modern approaches to the treatment of incomplete data, and contemporary longitudinal methods. They have delivered seminars and workshops on these and other quantitative topics at national conferences and trauma research laboratories.
