Terence M. Keane, PhD

Terence M. Keane, PhD, is Associate Chief of Staff for Research and Development at VA Boston Healthcare System. He is also Director of the Behavioral Science Division of the National Center for PTSD and Professor and Vice Chairman of Research in Psychiatry at the Boston University School of Medicine. The Past President of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, Dr. Keane has published six books and over 170 articles on the assessment and treatment of PTSD. For the past 24 years, VA, the National Institutes of Health, and the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) have continuously supported his program of research on psychological trauma. His contributions to the field have been recognized by many honors including the Robert Laufer Award for Outstanding Scientific Achievement from ISTSS, a J. William Fulbright Scholarship, Outstanding Research Contributions from the Association for Advancement of Behavior Therapy, an Outstanding Research Contribution Award and the Distinguished Service Award from the Division of Public Service Psychologists of the American Psychological Association, and the Weisband Distinguished Alumnus Award from Binghamton University (SUNY). Dr. Keane is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and the American Psychological Society. He has lectured and conducted workshops internationally on topics related to psychological trauma. In the wake of the terrorism attacks on New York City and the Pentagon, Dr. Keane has consulted to the Fire Department of New York and numerous federal agencies regarding research and the provision of mental health services. He serves on the American Psychological Association's Bioterrorism Task Force charged with developing guidelines for improving population-based preparedness.
