Why doesn't
a cost-effectiveness analysis tell you if something is cost-effective?
Suggestions about how and why to do a cost-effectiveness analysis
This workshop will focus on how and why to do an economic evaluation (e.g., cost-effectiveness analysis or cost-utility analysis) of strategies for treating trauma victims. The goal of the session will be to enhance understanding of the main ideas supporting "health economic thinking"; the math and statistics attending economic evaluations will be gently covered to the extent that there is interest from participants. As a case study, we will focus on an economic evaluation of cognitive behavioral therapy vs pharmacotherapy.
By the end of the session,
attendees will be able to describe:
1) the "answer" an economic evaluation yields;and
2) why this answer is useful.
