RESEARCH CAREER DEVELOPMENT PANEL
The purpose of this workshop is to provide aspiring researchers with the opportunity to: (1) learn about different career paths open to PTSD and trauma researchers; (2) identify the necessary building blocks to a successful trauma research career; and (3) ask questions about career issues they are currently facing. Each presenter is an accomplished researcher in the field of PTSD and trauma. In addition, the presenters have followed different trajectories for their research careers (e.g., academic psychology department, psychiatry department in a medical school, non-profit research corporation, and the Department of Veterans Affairs). Researchers will discuss the pros and cons of the paths they chose. Other issues to be addressed include: how to choose an internship or post-doctoral fellowship, how to survive financially, how to balance professional and personal lives, and hard versus soft money research positions.
